Three Loci down…. The
2013 Locus Red, 2012 Locus StoneTree Vineyard Syrah as well as 2014 Locus Dineen Vineyard Sémillon are officially gone for good. We should know better than to get attached to something perishable but we couldn’t help it. We loved these wines and while we are happy that we sold out, we are also sad to see them forever gone.
These wines meant the world to us: 2013 Locus Red was critically adored (91 points from Wine Spectator, Best of Show at Minneapolis Food and Wine Experience, Gold at San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition among others) and loved by Locus fans.
2012 Locus StoneTree Vineyard Syrah was our firstborn. Our first release ever. For those who love big and bold Washington Syrahs, it was “the” wine. Four years and many awards later (90 points from Wine Enthusiast, Double Gold from Seattle Wine Awards, 89 points from Wine Spectator), it has finally ridden off to the sunset.
Last but not least, 2014 Locus Sémillon from Dineen Vineyard… Many awards for this one too but too bad it is gone, because as we found out at Locus Wines Summer Party last July, Locus whites get only better and more complex with age.
Thankfully, we still have our other “babies.” 20 or so cases of the exquisite 2013 Locus Keller Vineyard Syrah, plus 2014 Modo Red, 2015 Rosé and the Sémillon…. No consolation though. Knowing we have other good wines still available doesn’t mean that the vanishing of these three hurts any less.
